    Particles, an international, peer-reviewed Open Access journal. Nonequilibrium physics is of fundamental relevance for many phenomena, occurring at the highest energy densities, such as heavy ion collisions, and also for condensed matter physics and ultracold gases. In studying the hot plasma behavior in tokamak devices, the classical approach for collisional processes is traditionally used. This approach leaves unexplained a number of phenomena observed in experiments related to plasma energy confinement.
